Australian Muscle Car News & Auction Results

The hottest muscle car at the moment would appear to be Tom Walkinshaws radical VL SS Group A Commodore. Just recently in May, one sold for $87,000 during the Shannons Sydney Auction. It was a one-registerd owner and it was number 594 out of the 750 Panorama Silver Commodores built by Tommy in 1988. The Walky fetched a high price tag because it spent most of its life in storagewith only 16,637 kilometres on the clock.

If we listen to current trends, there is a strong growing interest in the HDT and Walkinshaws Group A Commodores of the 80s.
In Melbourne another Tom Walkinshaw special (1988 Group A SS) got passed in for a whopping $95,000.

Top billing of the night went to a fully restored LHD 1966 Shelby GT 350 fastback, which sold for $200,000. During the night alot of muscle cars were passed in and the market has seem to  stabilise some what.  A notable pass in was the1977 Holden LX Torana A9X, which had a reserve price of $150,000 and a Holden Monaro GTS 1978 for $30,000.

The dizzy heights of the Ford Falcons during 2007 have come back to earth and this was evident with a pair of 1970 XW Falcon GTs that were for sale without reserve. Reports from the auction confirmed that only the Brambles Red model with a 351 Cleveland sold for a modest $35,000.

High interest rates, high inflation and the price of petrol has certainly taken its toll on the muscle car industry. Shannons reported a quiet night at the auctions, but still managed to clear about $600,000 worth of Muscle.
